Scars
Surviving through wars and natural disasters, Australia has quite a few scars here and there. But his most noticeable scar, which he vainly tries to hide, is the one on his nose. It's from the Darwin Bombings by Japan in WWI. His left leg and the general left-side of him has several faded burn scars from bushfires over time as well. The most recent scars are the ones on his feet and chest (Victorian fires and Canberra fires respectively).
Tattoos
Australia only has one tattoo on him but it's a rather noticeable one. It's the Southern Cross with mini union jacks inside them. They're on the left side of his chest, spread out so the highest reaching star is just under his collar bone while the lowest is next his nipple. The Union Jack shows his colonial history while the Southern Cross is a constellation that features on his flag. He's quite proud of it and isn't shy to whip off his shirt and flash it around.
Additional features --- By no means is Australia large or bulky but calling him slim or small wouldn't work either. He's more on the medium side with toned muscles and six pack he's proud to show off wearing Speedos. To Aus's annoyance however, his 'toned' muscles don't really give off a vibe that screams masculine, serious and strong. Rather it makes him seem like more of a playful, pretty boy and if anyone has the balls to say that to his face will get punched. Hard.
His face is probably one of the reasons why his muscles don't seem all that intimidating. With his long, angular face, cheery green eyes, mouth semi-permanently frozen in a smile, a straight nose and messy, gelled back brown hair, he doesn't come off as Mr Intimidation. His face however does suit his country. Australia's typical laid-back, easy-going stereotype goes well with his face so though he may not seem tough, he certainly looks the part as the nation's human personification.
Another thing that stops people from really taking him seriously is his pets. Both Bruce and Brumby have a tendency to stick to him like a magnet. Bruce likes to attach himself to Alex's arm while Brumby dangles off Alex's head. Yes, it's good exercise but it tends to make Alex more playful or even cuddly.
When at war, Australia will don his WWI-Era ANZAC uniform with a lot of pride but otherwise you'll catch him wearing rather plain clothes. With the sweltering heat of Australia, one has to sacrifice fashion so that you don't die of a heat stroke. So most of the time you'll catch him in shorts and a loose shirt. Occasionally jeans and a button up shirt if he needs to dress up. However, one thing that's almost impossible to get him in is a suit. The only time he'd consider wearing one is for extremely formal events that specifically say that he must wear a suit.

Personality ---
On the whole Australia is a pretty laid-back nation; he doesn’t care much for traditions or rules and is willing to go with the flow. To Alex, everybody starts off as his mate but breaks it off depending on the circumstances. But he hands out second chances like flyers so he’s willing to give everyone a chance to redeem themselves to become his mate again. However his second chance won’t spare you from his not-so subtle remarks/jokes about all the things you did wrong. It’s not because he doesn’t like you, it’s more along the lines of the fact he’s trying to make light of the events. He can be quite clueless and when it comes to jokes, most times he doesn’t know where to draw the line.
Telling him straight out that his jokes/remarks aren’t funny won’t work either. Thanks to the messy affair he calls his past, whenever a conversation gets a little too touchy feely, awkward or personal; he’ll attempt to change the topic to something more neutral. And if that doesn’t work, there’s an endless supply of excuses he’ll use to sneak away from you. He doesn’t mean to hurt anyone by being so closed off or ignorant but there are some things that he had done which he isn’t proud of and personal or touchy feely things open up a can of worms he doesn’t want. And Alex is a very firm believer in the concept of ‘Moving forward’. He’ll acknowledge the past but won’t dredge it up to the surface again. To him moving forward and looking towards the future is the best solution to any problem.
Alex also has a sometimes endearing, sometimes plain annoying personality trait that has aided him throughout the years. He has a complex where he feels an unbearable urge to help people. It doesn’t matter whether it involves him or not, he just can’t help getting involved and helping everyone out. This stems back to his past and how he was rather vulnerable due to the fact there simply wasn’t enough people to protect the entirety of him. With the motherland (Britain) so far away and no other powerful countries (sorry New Zealand) to help in out in the case of an invasion, Australia had to make friends to gain protection. What started out as helping for protection, became a full blown out compulsion to help out. Now, anytime there’s a crisis, you can count on him to show up and try to ‘assist’ you.
Which brings us to his inferiority and superiority complex. One side of Alex is convinced one hundred and ten percent that he is helpless and if he was invaded, he has no shot at winning. On the other hand, he’s convinced that the world needs his help to get better. He’s certain that he plays an important role in the world and without him things would fall apart. So on one side he has a deep rooted fear of losing and being taken over since no one is around to help him but on the other side is his ego/self confidence. Quite often the two clash and leaves a very confused Alex. At moments like this, he simply chooses to ignore whatever is bothering him and move forward. It usually means he has a lot of unresolved issues but the hassle he’ll have to go through to sort everything isn’t something that he thinks is worth his time.
One good thing about Alex is that his temper is almost non-existent. Sure if you dig around hard enough and bother him enough he’ll get mad, eventually. But unless you’re aiming to get him riled up, most cases Alex will simply smile and move forward. The fight isn’t worth the hassle; however there are certain topics which would require him to physical abuse you using his collection of boomerangs. But don’t worry. He’ll forgive you rather quickly and move forward.
Now, there are three main things that you really don’t want to argue with Australia about. The three big things are: environmental issues, human rights and his past. Being a nation that relies on the environment for many things (tourism, hydro-electricity etc.) Alex is very protective of it. Fire him up on it and he’ll talk your ear off about it. Human rights have an obvious reason behind it. Alex loves his people because he knows they’re the reason why he’s a nation. Without them, he wouldn’t be around. His past is a touchy topic due to all the Massacres done in his name and the Stolen Generation. Use that as ammunition against him and trust me, Australia will get very, very mad. It’s one of those things that are an absolute taboo to talk about around him.

Lesser known facts ---
• Prawns and jerky follow him everywhere. No really. He always seems to have some prawns or jerky to munch on. And when he wears his ANZAC uniform it makes sense as the uniform has a lot of pockets so maybe he stashes food in them. However, even when he's wearing short and a shirt, jerky and prawns just seem to magically appear out of nowhere.
• Alex is horrible at naming things. A clear example of this would be the fact he owns a Koala called Bruce and a kangaroo called Brumby. Why he named them this, is something he isn't even quite sure of.
• Whenever he feels stressed or just needs some time to himself, he likes taking his landrover for a drive in the outback. He finds the scenery and the motions of drive, calming.
• He actually does wrestle crocodiles and swim with great white sharks as a past time. It's a unique hobby that he indulges in.
• He has a stuffed toy sheep and kangaroo that he takes with him whenever he travels anywhere. He's rather fond of them and touching them will result in having a boomerang thrown at your head.
Goals ---
• To survive through any upcoming wars
• To make strong alliances so that his people don't have to suffer through another invasion
• To convince people that New Zealand is actually a state in Australia
• To make the Australian Dollar worth more than the American dollar

Roleplay example ---
19th February 1942,
Darwin Bombings
Sure most of the city’s population had been evacuated a few months ago but even so the death toll was sky high compared to what they’d expected. He had to give the Japanese some credit for building such sturdy and destructive planes since at the moment, Darwin looked like a hurricane had torn through it. Many of the buildings had been flatten and debris was scattered everywhere. Bodies, oh hell, body parts laid loose all around the city.
What Australia found morbidly amusing was that everyone had known that something like this would happen. The government had set up measures to prevent such an attack that would cause this level of devastation. Most of the people that remained were soldiers who knew what they were doing and weren’t scared the slightest, confident that a slaughter of this magnitude won’t occur. But oh how they were wrong.
The Japs had done a good job at weakening them. Bombing all hospitals, postal offices, military bases and ships meant they were helpless. Unable to contact the outside world for any help. The only real protection they had from the 188 Japanese planes was ten fighter planes and within the first forty-five minutes, all but one was down. The Japs only faced one or two plane casualties.
The more and more he thought about the attack, the more and more he got annoyed not only at Japan but at Britain and himself as well. Britain was supposed to help him. They said they’d protect him if he backed them up. Britain was his mate, of course he would have protected him, he thought. But he didn’t. But even then, why didn’t he prepare for an air raid? It is his country. If he had focused more on the protection of his skies than his seas, would less people have died?
“Still moping Alex? We fought for our people hard as we could. It ended disastrous for us but we can’t wrangle each other to find something to blame. Let it go. Maybe we’ll fair better next time” Here next to him was the big man himself, Prime Minister John Curtin. The man who was rather sickly but was still somehow managing to lead his country without faltering. He was the kind who knew what to do and would push to have his way. Something that he respected in the old man. “I’m thinking that we should become closer with America.”
“Bloody hell? America, really? Why him, John? Sure he’s strong and all but we have Britain right? They left us to be attacked this time but they’ll help out next time right?” Though, yes he had just been thinking of this, Curtin’s words voiced out a very real concern of his. Was Britain forgetting him?
“Britain is, was our motherland Alex. But it’s time we made our own alliances and made our place in this world. An alliance with America would secure our safety and our freedom. I only want the best for you and our people. And this is the best. Britain is too far away anyway.” Taking off his glasses to clean them, the Prime Minister looked around at the now ruins of Darwin. “Look at all this damage around us. It’s just proof we can’t rely on Britain as our only line of defence. We need our own alliances if we want to survive. Alright?”
Without waiting for a reply, Curtin put on his glasses and began to walk towards his escorts. At the last moment, he stopped to look back Australia. “Oh and Alex, keep a lid on the death toll here if you can. We don’t want to lose morale. It’s better if the people think that everything is fine. I’m sure you understand.”
“Yeah, anything for the people. Alright John, I’ll see ya later.”
